The animals of the big blue_Živalce velike modrine

Hardly any sailor dislikes fish. Swiming happily in the shadows of your boat or hunting scraps from your supper…or being the supper. The fish stock is severely depleted, but this is because of massive irrational strategies that scrap everything fom top to bottom – not leaving enough to continue reproducing. No amateur fisherman can be considered threat, even in the North Mediterranean where fish were never a massive occurence. Of course we cannot support big game fishing since the guys do it for pleasure, not food. Sustainable fishing is not just a word. It should be logical to anybody.

Empty blue is a scenario nobody wants to see. But even before serious depletion of fish and other small marine life can be observed there are other markers of trouble. A good indicator of healthy marine ecosystems are big marine vertebrates. In our part of the Mediterannean would be (see below)carettacarettaturtlezante

V našem delu Mediterana so to:

Octopus not a vertebrate at all. A cephalopod. One of the most intriguing and by all means most intelligent invertebrate. Once you’ve led a communication with an octopus you have to admire it’s intellingence, inquisitiveness and wierd dexterity. Anatomically it has huge brains, giant ganglia, powerful nerves, smart eyes. Unfortunatelly they taste soooo good on gril or in salad – a morality fight we still have to settle on Habibi. The truth is, we, the humankind, are predators (as octopuses are as well). No vegetarianism, sources, alternatives etc. are to change this fact – normal available protein supplement to our diet (that enabled us to develop into Homo sapiens, never mind if you like being one or not) was and remains of animal origin.

Habibi’s crew supports all the linked organisations. Malan is a crucial member of VIVAMAR.

During Habibi’s voyage we’ll continue our work for National Geograpohic Slovenia and activerly participate in conservation efforts of Archelon, Archipelagos, Pelagos Research Institute and MOM. Please distrubute your support or donation as you see it appropriate.
